How to Calculate SIP Returns

Follow these simple steps to calculate your SIP returns:

  1. Monthly Investment: Enter the amount you plan to invest every month. E.g., ₹5,000.
  2. Expected Return Rate: Enter the annual return you expect from your mutual fund. Equity funds historically return 12–15% p.a. over the long term.
  3. Investment Period: Enter how many years you plan to invest. E.g., 10 years.
  4. Click Calculate: See your total invested amount, estimated returns, and maturity value instantly.

SIP Formula:

M = P × ({[1 + r]^n − 1} / r) × (1 + r)

Where: M = Maturity amount, P = Monthly SIP amount, r = Monthly return rate (Annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), n = Total number of months.

Example: ₹5,000/month for 10 years at 12% p.a.:

r = 12 ÷ 1200 = 0.01  |  n = 120

M = ₹5,000 × ((1.01^120 − 1) / 0.01) × 1.01 = ₹11,61,695

Total invested: ₹6,00,000  |  Gains: ₹5,61,695

Why Invest Through SIP₹

SIP is the most recommended way to invest in mutual funds in India for several compelling reasons:

  • Rupee Cost Averaging: You buy more units when markets are low and fewer when high, averaging out your cost over time.
  • Power of Compounding: Returns are reinvested, generating returns on returns — making time your greatest asset.
  • Disciplined Investing: Auto-debit from your bank account ensures consistent investment without emotional decisions.
  • Start Small: Begin with as little as ₹500 per month — SIP is accessible to everyone.
  • Flexible: Pause, increase, or stop your SIP anytime without penalty.
  • Tax Benefits: ELSS SIPs qualify for ₹1.5 lakh deduction under Section 80C.
